Born in Harrow in 1959 into a somewhat dysfunctional family, Andrea’s early life was marked by academic challenges. Despite leaving school with a few CSEs, including a B in biology and a B+ in art, a subsequent stint at Harrow Technical College yielded credits and a distinction in hairdressing. This skill would sustain them through many years in England and abroad.
After leaving the hairdressing industry, Andrea embarked on a varied career path, predominantly within the service sector. Their experiences included window dressing at Selfridges and running a gardening business. They also spent time working as a sex worker, a demanding and formative period that shaped their understanding of human resilience. In 1999, they embarked on a profound personal journey, transitioning from male to female.
A life characterized by resilience and adaptability; Andrea has navigated numerous challenges. Their diverse work history has shaped their unique perspective. Encouraged by others to write a book, the time felt right to share their story. Now settled in East Sussex with their two beloved dogs, Pearl and Dotty, and with an upcoming wedding, Andrea has found a sense of peace and fulfilment.
